Age Discrimination
The federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 prohibits employment discrimination against persons 40 years of age or older by companies with fifteen or more employees. Some states have enacted their own age discrimination laws that extend the age to cover younger employees.
These laws make it unlawful for an employer to fail or refuse to hire or to terminate any individual because of the individual's age. It is also unlawful to discriminate against any individual with respect to compensation, terms, conditions, opportunities, status or privileges of employment because of age.
